Best websites to save: My favorites

When it comes to raising a family, I am quite the frugal one.  Before making an online purchase, I make sure to enter a promo code and strategically shop when FREE shipping is offered to  ensure my maximum savings.  Or if I am in store making a purchase I usually have an app in which I add virtual coupons in order to save more.  As far as vendor credit cards are concerned, I stay away from them unless the rewards program  more than outweighs others. Purchasing on a credit card is best as long as you pay off the balance monthly. It will be a deeper pit if you keep swiping without paying it down. Now member cards such as Ulta Ultimate rewards programs which are not a credit card are great for even additional savings as you garner more points to save on future purchases. Doing a little pre-shopping research can certainly help your family keep monthly expenses inline whether it’s for grocery shopping, shopping for clothes, or even planning recreational activities for your family.  There are many ways to stay within budget and still enjoy a enjoyable lifestyle.

Here are my tips to being a savvy shopper online & in-store:

1. Sign up/subscribe for email updates on deals and promotions for your favorites stores

2. Twitter – Follow you them for specials and upcoming events/promotions

3. Sign up for

4. Clip/download coupons to maximize savings

5. Plan ahead by marking your calendar (Use your calendar on your phone & enter reminders to notify you when the event is coming up.

A sweet friend recommended a great book by Dave Ramsey’s daughter. It’s called “Love Your Life Not Theirs” by Rachel Cruze.  I highly recommend picking it up. It’s very current and has great advice for how to live debt free.

Its available on Amazon for $16.82.
Remember you don’t have to sacrifice fun, just keep in mind you don’t have to pay full price for everything!

BellaKiss Lipsense – Lipcolor that lasts

I am truly excited to share with you my most recent investment.  After seeing the multitude of pictures of ladies with lips adorned with LipSense, I took the plunge and ordered the LipSense kit in Bella.  I am so glad that I was introduced to this product by a friend.  My friend Bella, coincidentally has the same name as the color I chose for the kit.

What is LipSense?

LipSense is the premier product of SeneGence and is unlike any conventional lipstick, stain or color. It is waterproof, does not kiss-off, smear-off, or rub off!  Now ladies, that’s a huge selling point for me.  LipSense is GMO free, lead-free, wax free and is cruelty free.

How does LipSense work?

LipSense application is quite easy as 3 simple steps:

  1. Shake, Shake, Shake
  2. Apply 3 thin layers of LipSense color on your lips (Wait 10 seconds between layers)
  3. Apply Lip Gloss (Great Hydration)

Here’s a great Youtube video on “How to apply Lipsense

Important Tips: Make sure to start with clean, exfoliated, dry lips.  Also reapply the gloss throughout the day to protect the color and moisturize your lips for that beautiful shine and out of this world color.

How does the color stay?

Here is ME in Bella.  I must say I love the color.  Looks like I surely will have to try out some bolder shades next. Roseberry seems to be calling my name.

Who can wear LipSense?

Anyone who would like to liven up their lips.  I would advise you to check out the ingredients and ensure that you are not allergic to any of the listed.

What’s included?

  1. Lip Color
  2. Lip Gloss
  3. Lip Remover

What colors can you choose from?

How much does it cost?

$55 for the Starter kit – I would highly recommend the kit.  The kits includes the gloss and the remover.

$25 for the color

Beauty: Organic vs Non Organic

What are we putting on our skin?  After doing much research about my desire to go Organic in my household, I have found some great information on what to avoid when it comes to caring for my skin.  Take a look at the ingredients and their effects on the body.

There are endless resources out there including online studies, organic beauty experts and even environmental agencies such as the EWG and  I hope you all may do your best to improve your beauty routine and choose beauty products that will not pose a health risk to you or your family.

My favorite Organic Beauty Blogger, The Organic Bunny has some great organic products she recommends and I can’t wait to try them.

What are your favorite organic beauty products?

Harmony at Home
Parenting. It is a calling, a blessing, a challenge at times, an adventure full of uh ohs……  and yet such an enriching lifetime commitment.  Before I begin, I would like to preface, each and every parent has their own parenting styles which may work for them, but not others, so this is by no means the Merriam Webster’s handbook to parenting.  This is my personal account of my journey and character building experiences that I am sharing with you.  My husband and I clearly have different ideas of fun and entertainment (no I will not throw my 6 month old up it the air), however, what we both can effortlessly agree on is one thing, teaching our children compassion and fortitude.  When both parents are on the same page on those core principles, parenting can be so much more constructive. We both strongly feel how vital it is to create a foundation of reverent, kind and dedicated little humans.  Teaching them to be selfless, loving and nurturing can prepare them to build meaningful relationships with others and hopefully with their future spouse.  So how do we do this?

1. Teach them to be kind (there’s too much negativity in the world)

2. Teach them to share

3. Give them a hug (many times a tantrum can be resolved by a tender hug)

4. Compliment them for doing a good deed

5. Challenge them to try new things

When I reflect back on my own childhood, I remember being quite the timid one until I hit my early teen years.  These days it seems children have way more available to them. This includes tv, tablets, mobile devices, toys galore yet are these items really teaching our children the right messages?  This brings me to the practice of “minimalizing.”  Would I call myself a minimalist? No, not quite. Who am I kidding, we live in this modest age where there’s the latest and greatest.  So what am I getting at.  Quality time with your children. I can say without a doubt our girls are the happiest when mommy and daddy are doing something fun with them. My oldest is 4, so I don’t quite know how that will go once she starts school but this early children is such a critical stage to do our best to parent cohesively and give them that strong foundation of love and support.

Speaking of toddlers, features a great article titled, “3 Ways to Raise a Caring Toddler

We also love to teach our little ones about our Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ.  I cannot express how grateful I am to have HIM in my life. He lifts me up when I am down and reminds me why I am needed here on earth.  Parenting in this Modern era comes with many trials and rough patches but don’t be discouraged because you ARE doing your best.  Make it priority to rear your children with love  and affection an active participation. As Elder James E Faust quotes, “In my opinion, the teaching, rearing, and training of children requires more intelligence, intuitive understanding, humility, strength, wisdom, spirituality, perseverance, and hard work than any other challenge we might have in life. This is especially so when moral foundations of honor and decency are eroding around us.”  May we all focus on the cores principles of child rearing and let not the worldly distractions interfere with your role as parents. Take a moment each day to hug and embrace your children and give them your wholehearted, undivided attention.  Remember, they are gifts to us.

Fashion: Modesty in the Modern World

When it comes to “modest fashion” many may be quick to judge.  You see, I am a convert to the church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  I was baptized and confirmed in November 2011.  So you see I didn’t always dress conservatively and modestly.  Don’t forget I live in the desert, yes our beautiful sunshine state with triple digit temps.  So when I started reading the Young Women’s handbook, I was immediately thought, I would need to redo my whole wardrobe!  That can get quite expensive and realistically I am a on a stay at home mom with hubby still in school budget. So shrugs, cardigans and skirt extenders it was.  Once I was reminded of that Heavenly Father loves HIS children and not our choice in clothing, but how he wants us to live a virtuous life, I took time to think about what that meant.

So what is modesty?

Modesty is an attitude of propriety and decency in dress, grooming, language, and behavior. If we are modest, we do not draw undue attention to ourselves. Instead, we seek to “glorify God in [our] body, and in [our] spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:20; see also 1 Corinthians 6:19).

I came across two great articles on how modesty has shaped the lives of many.  I love these Insights on Modesty on   LDS Living also  came out with a great article: 5 Ways to Help Youth  See Modestly Differently.

I can testify that I know when we follow these standards we can feel closer to our heavenly father and know that he wants us to respects our bodies and be the example he wants us to be. This includes setting a good example for my little ones (I have 3 daughters). Dressing modestly is not always easy, however when we think about clothing as a reflection of who we are inside, we can feel comfort that we are doing our best to be virtuous.

So I decided to share with you how to dress modestly without giving up the fashionable part.

Air Quality: How clean is your air?

We seldom think about our indoor air quality in our homes or workplace.  A few years back, we had our roof and attic insulation replaced (prompting a 3 month forced staycation) followed by our a/c unit going out (right in the middle of the AZ triple digit summer).  That will be a story for another time.   After several weeks of countless visits from contractors, our a/c unit was repaired, our insulation was redone and we received a brand NEW roof on our quaint, semi modernized home.  Thankfully, we stepped foot into our newly roofed abode but something just didn’t seem right.  Our home just didn’t seem the same.  There seemed to be lingering particles in the air from all the old insulation that was extracted, and a musky smell resonating.  My husband shoo’d us out and said the air was bad.  We immediately went and purchased 3 different air purifiers for our home and ran them nonstop for a few days and boy did it make a HUGE difference.   Whether you’ve had demolition work in your home (For ex. a bathroom remodel), live in a desert like us (good old Grand Canyon State) or have or  have kids with allergies, there are tons of pollutants in our atmosphere that can affect your health.  You may want to re-evaluate the indoor air quality of your home.

Before you head outdoors, you can check the air quality in your neighborhood right on

My advice is looking into a VOC and/or HEPA air filter/purifier or getting some plants to better your air quality for you and your family. Consider a good quality air purifier like the Rabbit Air HEPA or an indoor air purifying plant like THESE reccommended by BlessMyWeeds   May we purify our homes as well as purify our minds each and every day ❤
